International Women’s Day - March 8, 2024

Rector’s Remarks

The website of the International Women’s Day has this to say:

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can.

As a black American, I carry the burden and the blessings of my ancestors whose lot in life is fighting for the rights of everyone. We fought to end slavery, we fought for women’s suffrage, we fought for Jews to be accepted in the US, we fought for Native Americans’ rights, we fought to end apartheid, we fought, and we continue to fight for a just world.   Today, we join all the women of the world not only to imagine a gender equal world, but to strive for its reality.  We join all those who celebrate and value diversity and inclusion.

Today, we celebrate all the women of the world.  We celebrate their maternal roles that nurture and bring lives into fruition.  We celebrate their roles as the pillars of their families.  We celebrate their professional prowess.  We celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to our civilization.  Above all, we celebrate their beauty, their femininity, and their endless struggles for equality, especially in countries and cultures that continue to be repressive and subjugating.

Thanks to all Danubius women.  You are all women of valor, and the University is blessed by your presence and hard work.  Together, we can make Danubius International University better, together we can make Romania great, and together we can make our world a happier home for all.  May we have more reasons to celebrate at this time next year.  Happy Women’s Day!

Dr. Steve O. Michael

Rector/CEO
