A Workshop of Excellence within the ESIL Research Forum 2026: Sustainability, Business & Human Rights

The workshop “Sustainability, Business & Human Rights: Evolutions from Soft to Hard Law”, organised as a Pre-Forum Workshop within the ESIL Research Forum 2026 – Kraków (“Sustainable International Law – Reconciling Stability and Change”), held on 7 April 2026 (09:00–12:00 BST, online), represented a high-level academic endeavour, characterised by a rigorous and forward-looking analysis of sustainability in international law, as well as of the actors and mechanisms shaping this evolution.

The Faculty of Law and International Governance was institutionally represented by Associate Professor Cristina Elena Popa Tache, Dean of the Faculty, who made a multifaceted contribution: co-organiser of the event, Co-Convenor of the ESIL Interest Group on International Business and Human Rights, and co-moderator of Panel II.

Panel I, moderated by Belén Olmos Giupponi, focused on the trajectory of sustainability in international law. Judith Bauder delivered a nuanced analysis of the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, while Xuan Shao addressed the geoeconomic dimensions of critical minerals and supply chain governance.

Panel II, co-moderated by Nina M. Hart and Cristina Elena Popa Tache, further deepened the analysis of the actors and mechanisms influencing international law. The interventions delivered by Otgontuya Davaanyam, Bilge Erbaş and Asude Oruklu highlighted, in a scientific manner, the dynamics of soft law norms, the role of institutional interpretation, and the impact of non-judicial mechanisms in the regulation of global supply chains.

Overall, the workshop stood out for its high academic standard, interdisciplinary relevance, and its capacity to connect theoretical reflection with current normative challenges in the field of business and human rights.

 


SELECTION OF DANUBIUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF THE SCHOOL OF LAW AND INTERNATIONAL GOVERNANCE BLENDED INTENSIVE PROGRAM (BIP) – ERASMUS+ KA131 MALAGA, 20-24.07.2026

Danubius International University organizes the selection of 5 students from the School of Law and International Governance (Bachelor’s study field) to participate in the Blended Intensive Programme “Environment and Climate Change: A Practical Approach”, organized by the University of Málaga, during 20–24.07.2026.

A Blended Intensive Programme is a programme in which a group of students and/or staff carry out a short-term physical mobility abroad, combined with a mandatory virtual component, conducted before, during, or after the physical mobility.

The virtual component aims to bring participants together in an online environment, where they work collaboratively and simultaneously on specific tasks integrated into the learning process. Activities may include innovative teaching and learning methods, such as online collaboration and challenge-based learning, thereby contributing to the overall educational outcomes of the programme.

The program aims to ensure added value compared to the existing courses or training programs at the participating institutions and seeks to offer more flexible forms of mobility, accessible to all types of students, regardless of their field of study or academic level.

The project is developed and implemented by three higher education institutions accredited with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), from three programme-participating countries.

The programme will award a total of 3 ECTS credits, accumulated for both the physical and virtual components.

4. Program Description

Objectives and Description

The program “Environment and Climate Change: A Practical Approach” will focus on environmental law and climate change, using both a theoretical and practical approach.

The program addresses, among other things, the following preliminary aspects:

  1. Environmental law and disasters
  2. Climate justice
  3. SDGs and environment
  4. Bathing water quality
  5. Environmental cinema

Activities will take place at the Faculty of Law of Malaga University, but some sessions will be held in institutions such as UNITAR office (CIFAL, Málaga) or through visits to specific sites, for example Jardín Botánico Histórico La Concepción.

Methods and Outcomes

The program uses interactive learning methods, including international collaboration, case studies, and problem-solving activities.

Expected outcomes: development of students’ skills in climate change, environmental law, and climate justice through a practical approach.

An integrated, theoretical and practical approach will be adopted.

Expected results: the development of students’ competencies in the fields of climate change, environmental law, and climate justice, through a practical approach.

Innovation: fostering students’ active engagement through practical activities, working groups, role-play simulations, and case studies, designed to consolidate and deepen the content of the Programme.

Program structure:

 

  • Physical component: 5 days of academic and practical activities
  • Virtual component: activities carried out online before and/or after the mobility period.

Description of the virtual component:

The virtual component includes activities carried out in the online environment (virtual campus), such as:

  • completion of questionnaires;
  • studying the provided materials and answering questions;
  • conducting thematic discussions based on scenarios and roles;
  • online collaboration among participants.

Candidate registration will take place from 07.04.2026 to 20.04.2026.

 

The evaluation of applications and the publication of results will take place from 20.04.2026 to 21.04.2026.

Selection interview: The date of the selection interview will be scheduled based on the number of applications received and will be communicated to candidates via email.

 

The interview will take place at the Erasmus+ Office, Room A3.

Foreign language test: This will be required if the candidate does not hold a language proficiency certificate. The test will be conducted in English.

The evaluation will be calculated as follows:

- Overall grade of academic results up to and including the most recent session: 50% of the total evaluation

- English language skills: 30% of the total evaluation

- Interview: 20% of the total evaluation

 

Eligibility criteria for the selection:

- Students must be enrolled at least in the 2nd year of their Bachelor’s studies;

- Students must be full-time, with good academic results (average grade of at least 7 up to the time of selection);

- The Erasmus+ programme encourages the participation of students with special needs. If an applicant has a physical, mental, or other health condition that prevents them from participating in mobility without additional financial support, the university may request the National Agency to increase the grant for special needs to cover the necessary extra costs. Participants who wish to request additional financial support for special needs must discuss these matters with the representatives of the Erasmus+ Office when preparing their mobility documents.

The documents required to request additional support for special needs are:

- An application specifying details regarding the nature of the needs, the types of expenses anticipated, and the corresponding amounts;

- A copy of the participant’s valid disability certificate for the duration of the mobility, issued by an authorized institution;

- Copies of any other documents supporting the participant’s request may also be attached (for example, if the request involves coverage of treatment costs, a referral or medical letter from a doctor indicating the need for treatment during the mobility period should be included).

Students from “Vasile Alecsandri” National College Explore the Realm of Knowledge at Danubius International University

In an atmosphere charged with curiosity and enthusiasm, the students of “Vasile Alecsandri” National College had the opportunity to visit the library of Danubius International University. The visit evolved into a captivating journey through the realms of science and historical knowledge.

The students engaged in an interactive academic dialogue, characterized by the formulation of pertinent questions regarding the international socio-cultural and educational context, with particular emphasis on the American sphere.

The event was honored by the presence of the University’s Rector and CEO, Dr. Steve O. Michael, alongside the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Andy Pușca. They interacted directly with the students, addressing their inquiries concerning American history, culture, and educational systems, while also providing valuable insights into academic pathways and the significance of understanding historical and international contexts.

In conclusion, this encounter symbolizes more than a mere educational exchange: it represents an invitation to discovery, intellectual dialogue, and the cultivation of a culture of academic excellence that transcends the traditional boundaries of the classroom.

Expanding Academic Horizons: University Outreach Initiatives in the Pre-University Educational Environment of Bârlad

In an effort to strengthen the relationship between the pre-university and academic environments, Assist. Prof. PhD Candidate Camelia Aramă, in her capacity as Director of DREU, alongside Dr. Ciprian Manea, Dean of the Faculty of Global Business and Leadership, as well as the representatives of the territorial center—Nelu Simion, Bârlad Center Coordinator, and Ioan Diaconu, Center Secretary—conducted a series of activities aimed at presenting the educational offer of Danubius International University to high school students in Bârlad.

 

During the meetings held at the “Mihai Eminescu” Theoretical High School and the Technological High School Puiești, the Dean’s address highlighted the distinctive profile of the Faculty of Global Business and Leadership, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of its study programs and their alignment with the dynamics of the contemporary labor market. His intervention was complemented by the presentations of the other members of the delegation, who underscored the importance of making informed decisions regarding educational pathways and encouraged students to capitalize on the opportunities provided by modern higher education. Through a coherent and forward-looking approach, the event successfully captured the participants’ interest, shaping a compelling perspective on the role of university education in building a successful career.
